Insurance companies operate in a challenging environment in which seemingly minor decisions may have significant ramifications. Bullivant provides national and local representation to insurers in claim-related and regulatory matters, giving advice and defending contractual and extra-contractual litigation. With each assignment, we pay particular attention to the risks and costs associated with the individual matter, and to the potential enterprise and industry-wide ramifications of each issue and defense.
Bullivant's Insurance Industry Services Group has more than 25 lawyers who counsel and represent participants in the insurance industry on a full-time basis. Our coverage lawyers are recognized nationally and internationally as experts in the insurance and reinsurance fields. They are physically located in four western states, but many are licensed in other jurisdictions, and are able to assist with coverage matters across the country.
Our Insurance Industry Services team includes specialists in virtually every type of policy, including commercial property, boiler and machinery, ocean marine, inland marine, builder's risk, fidelity and commercial crime, E&O, D&O, EPLI/EBLI, commercial and personal automobile, homeowners', personal liability, umbrella liability, commercial general liability, and many others too specialized to merit specific mention.
Our focus on the insurance industry from an enterprise and industry-wide perspective means that all of our lawyers understand that the implications of extra-contractual claims against insurers can and do extend beyond the particular case being handled. We regularly work with our clients to avoid, control, and when necessary, defend against "bad faith" and other tort claims. We defend class actions and multi-district litigation as well as individual claim disputes, and we assist underwriting departments with regulatory issues and policy drafting.
Many of Bullivant's Insurance Industry Services attorneys are recognized experts, holding leadership positions in national professional organizations and teaching, speaking, and writing on insurance-related issues. One of our lawyers is an ARIAS Certified reinsurance arbitrator and many of our lawyers have worked as court-appointed or privately retained mediators, appraisers, umpires and arbitrators. In addition to knowing the law and substance of their practice area, our lawyers are proud of their skills as problem solvers with common sense and seasoned judgment who are called upon to handle matters not only in the four western states where Bullivant has offices but throughout the United States. We are experienced trial attorneys with well-honed courtroom skills, effective advocates in mediations and arbitrations, and trusted advisors who can help clients weigh the risks and rewards of competing strategic options. Our staff and technology resources enable us to handle complex insurance industry cases efficiently and effectively.
