Douglas G. Houser, an attorney in the Portland, Oregon office of Bullivant Houser Bailey PC, has been recognized by the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel (FDCC) with their first time ever Lifetime Achievement Award.

"I am particularly pleased and deeply honored to receive this award recognizing a lifetime of commitment to the legal profession," Doug said but stated, "I think the perfect expression of receiving a lifetime award is to be working when they're handing it out. I do hope they don't think I have achieved everything I want to achieveā€”I'm not ready to go home and retire. I'm not done yet."

Doug received the award at the FDCC Winter Meeting held March 6-10, 2017 in Charleston, South Carolina. The award recognizes a member who ". . . is truly a legal giant in his/her own community as well as a highly contributing FDCC member. The purpose of the award is to shine a spotlight on those lawyers amongst us who are above and beyond as leaders in the law and whose reputations and influence transcend their legal career."

"We are delighted by the FDCC's recognition of Doug's extraordinary contributions of knowledge, fellowship, and professionalism to the legal profession," said Loren Podwill, president of Bullivant Houser Bailey. "His leadership and accomplishments are not only a great service to the profession but also to the communities and businesses that we serve. Doug has always gone 'above and beyond' and the Lifetime Achievement Award is a fitting tribute to his contributions."

Doug's commitment to the FDCC, a measure of his commitment to the profession, began more than 40 years ago. He served as President of the FDCC from 1990-1991, served as a Chair of their Board of Directors the following year, and served on the FDCC Foundation's Board of Directors from 1993-1999. Additionally, Doug founded the FDCC's Litigation Management College and served as the Dean from 1994-1996.

Doug's leadership has paved the way for a number of other Bullivant lawyers who have held important positions within the FDCC. Most recently, Andrew B. Downs served on the Board of Directors of the FDCC from 2012-2015.

Bullivant is proud not only of Doug's achievements but also of the leadership that he brings to the many lawyers who have practiced with him at the firm. Countless lawyers have honed their craft under his tutelage and consider him a mentor. Doug's commitment to the practice of law continues as he represents clients, counsels younger lawyers, and contributes to the legal profession, delivering zealous representation balanced by high standards of professionalism.
